Can the 49ers finally end their Chief’s curse?

It has been over 10 years since the San Francisco 49ers last beat the Kansas City Chiefs and Sunday’s matchup proves to be another tantalizing NFL occasion.

Purdy has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season

The injury-plagued 49ers have had a hot and cold start to the 2024 season, with star running-back Christian McCaffery still out with an Achilles injury.

Although the prospect of facing a team they haven’t defeated in almost a decade isn’t damaging the Niners’ players confidence.

49ers second year safety Ji’Ayir Brown joined talkSPORT to discuss the prospect of facing the undefeated Chiefs.

“It doesn’t matter if this is the Chiefs or whoever it was coming up were going into every game with the same mindset, and that is to win a football game.

“There were no extra messages this week with it being against the Chiefs.

“I know the media like to paint a picture of revenge.

“This is no kind of revenge game, nothing like that, this is great football that we want to see on Sunday and the better we execute the better the game gonna go for us.

“Everyone on this team knows what our goal is, so I think that’s what we’re on right now is just our goal and then taking it one week at a time and then just keep going.”

Head coach Kyle Shannahan will once again try to figure out Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

This is the first time the two teams have met since the Chiefs 25-22 superbowl victory in February, just the second superbowl ever to go into overtime.

The 49ers 3-3 record on the season doesn’t quite demonstrate just how good the offense has been for them this season.

Led by ‘Mr Irrelevant’ Brock Purdy, who is putting up MVP numbers six games into the season.

The former Iowa-State quarterback has thrown for over 1,600 yards so far this season, with 13 touchdown passes and 70.3 QB rating, the fifth highest in the NFL according to ESPN, 11 spots ahead of Patrick Mahomes.

49ers rookie receiver/returner Jacob Cowing was also keen to discuss what it’s like to be on a team led by the third-year QB.

“He is very mindful of everything going around him when it comes to being on the field and running through plays and everything,” he told talkSPORT.

“To see how intent and detailed he is and telling us receivers and certain ways that we can to kind of overcome certain defenses that are thrown our way

“Even just in the locker room, just very, very humble. Likes to get to know each and one of his teammates and create a bond with each one of his guys.

The Chiefs are a perfect 5-0 and are coming off their bye week

“All around, Brock is a good dude on and off the field and I’m just happy to be part of the team with him and just continue to strive and get better each and every week.”

Purdy will be coming off a 255 yard, three touchdown performance against the Seattle Seahawks

If there was any time to play the Chiefs, the time is now with Mahomes not performing to usual ridiculous standard.

With a trip to Dallas approaching in week eight, the Niners will be hoping a win against Kansas and the possibility of McCaffery returning in Texas is the start of one of their magical runs to the playoffs.
